Today being the last day of 2012, I wanted to mention a few of the memorable athletic highlights for the year. I’d also like to share some of the highlights of the year for my business, Fitness Planning Consultants. We’ve had some fun things happening this year.
First, let’s start off with the 2012 athletic achievements that I think were memorable. I’m bound to forget some, so feel free to mention them in the comments box below.
- Let’s start with the Sports Illustrated Man of the Year, Lebron James. If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I think Lebron James is one of the best athletes we’ve ever seen. His awesome display of size and speed is something the NBA has never witnessed. He finally got the monkey off his back and won his first title. Still the naysayers pick at him. Stop hating and just observe him a few games knowing you are witnessing one of the best athletes, in his prime, in sport’s history.
- Usain Bolt won 3 more gold medals this past Olympics, but the one we really watched was the 100M. Would he repeat? Were his injuries catching up? Obviously, Usain Bolt’s workout routine was just right as he won and made no doubt who was the fastest man alive.
- This wasn’t an athletic achievement, but it was one of the biggest stories of the year. Lance Armstrong falling from grace. It doesn’t look good for Lance with all the evidence suggesting he was part of an elaborate doping scheme. I ticked some people off with my opinion on whether Armstrong took drugs or not. In a sport where they all seem to be taking drugs, he did win seven titles and they might strip him of that, but we have our memories.
- We’re really going to lose hockey for another season?? Does anybody care?
- I’m still amazed about the buzz Jeremy Lin made for that 3 or 4 week period early in the year. The blog post I made commenting on Lin’s workout was one of my top viewing posts for awhile.
- Mike Trout had an incredible year in baseball and get this, he was only 20 years old. The guy almost one the MVP for the league. His combo of speed and power will be a fixture in MLB for years to come.
- All due respect to Peyton Manning, what Adrian Peterson is doing this year is unbelievable. The guy blew his knee out almost a year ago and is on the verge of possibly getting 2000 yards rushing. Most athletes who come back from an ACL injury need a season to get back into it, but not AP. He is cutting and running with no hint of such a traumatic injury happening only 12 months ago.
- My sister-in-law, Meredith Kessler, had a great season during her Ironman season this year. She ended up winning 3 Ironmans and 2 70.3 races (half Ironmans), getting a second and fourth in 2 other Ironmans, and getting two thirds in two more 70.3 races. I might have left a couple out, but heck of a year for her.
My business, Fitness Planning Consultants, had a nice year and I’d like to share a few of the highlights.
- My assistant, Bryan Morosky, had his first full year with us and is doing great coaching athletes on how to be faster. On a personal note, Bryan ran in the Amateur Sprint Triathlon World Championships in New Zealand and although he didn’t place as well as he wanted, it was a tremendous experience for him.
- I was asked to speak on speed development at a couple clinics this year. One was the Ohio NSCA State Strength and Conditioning Clinic. I met some great people and hopefully enlightened the attendees on how to better their speed program.
- Just a rough count, but currently we have 11 athletes playing division one collegiate sports (4 in the Big Ten and 2 in the SEC) and 3 athletes playing d3 sports.
- We spent our first year in our new facility and I think it is finally looking like a “real” training center for athletes.
- We launched our Training Camp adult fitness classes to get adults in healthier shape.
- I had my best year yet for sales of my Run Faster Method (my online speed training program). I also collaborated with Rick Karboviak to put together a combo speed and quickness product.
- We continue to help athletes of all ages (as young as 9 as old as – well we’ll just say 50+) improve their speed and athletic abilities.
- We got some great things coming so looking forward to helping you in 2013.
