Several weeks ago, I wrote a post on The Fattest Cities In The U.S.  It was basically a summary from a Men’s Fitness Article I read.  Well, it has become my most popular blog post.  Maybe I should switch from this speed training stuff to address fat loss.

Anyways, I told you I would list the top 25 fittest cities in our fair land and now I’ve got the time to do it.  So, without further ado:

  1. Portland – 40.3% of Portland residents weigh within healthy parameters.  54.7% of adults perform at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity 5+ days a week.  As a special added fact, my sister-in-law, pro Ironman athlete Meredith Kessler, won the Portland Rev3 here last year.
  2. San Francisco – It has 0 high ozone days and 30.6% eat veggies 5 times a day.  When I was visiting, I saw a ton of people out running, biking, and getting great activity.  Fun fact: Meredith does all her Ironman training there because that’s where she lives.
  3. Albuquerque – To be honest, I was surprised this was on the list, but there are 67.5 acres of parkland per 1000 residents.  You can get lots of outdoorsy stuff done.
  4. Oakland – It is right next to San Fran, why shouldn’t it be healthy.  It is tied with San Fran for #1 of the amount of residents who have a healthy bodyweight (44.8%).
  5. Boston – People in Boston spend 92% less than the national average on fast food.
  6. Seattle – This is home of Bruce Lee’s grave, one of the original fitness pioneers.
  7. Denver – One of the best cities that promotes fitness.  Tons of outdoor stuff to do.
  8. San Diego – 54.5% of the residents do at least one core fitness activity 50+ times a year.  And, according to Ron Burgundy, San Diego is German for a whale’s…. sorry, on to the next city.
  9. Minneapolis – It’s so cold there.  How do they stay fit?  A city I want to visit only 2 months out of the year.
  10. Honolulu – 43.9% of the residents maintain a healthy weight.
  11. Tucson – I think people keep weight off there because it is so hot.  I know, I know.  Minny is too cold, Tucson too hot.  I’m just never satisfied.
  12. Austin – 31.1% of Austin residents are cardio fanatics.  There must be some mistake here.  Every other Texas city was on the fat list.
  13. Colorado Springs – 161 is the mean number of days below 32 degrees.  I will visit not live there.
  14. San Jose – Maybe I should move to this area.  Everyone that lives around here seems to be pretty fit.
  15. Omaha – There are 0 high ozone days here.
  16. Washington – Our nation’s capital is on this list.  A Gallup survey said this is the happiest city in America.  You gotta be kidding me?
  17. Milwaukee – Once Arnold’s closed down, they were able to bring in healthier eating establishments.  Arnold’s (you must be younger than me)?  Wait for it….
  18. Virginia Beach – Wheee, let’s go frolic on the beach.
  19. Sacramento – With the exception of LA, let’s make sure that every California city is on this list.  They were one of the first states to ban smoking in public establishments.
  20. Jacksonville – The first city from the otherwise unhealthy Southeast, to crack this list.
  21. New York – Does this count as representing Jersey Shore folks?
  22. Wichita – Quick, how many of you can tell me which state Wichita is in??
  23. Oklahoma City – Quick, how many of you can tell me which state Oklahoma City is in?  (Just keeping you on your toes.  I want to make sure my readers are the cream of the crop)
  24. Nashville – Does this count as a Southeast city?
  25. San Antonio – Alright, I’ll be quiet about the Texas comments.  You got a second city in the list.

So, there you have it.  I think if you analyze this and want to be healthy, live on the West Coast (all along the West Coast) and your Rocky Mountain cities.  If you think that this health stuff is for the birds and want to live with your “not-so-fit peeps,” try the Midwest or Southeast.

P.S.  Arnold’s was the hamburger joint from the TV show, Happy Days.
