Had some time to kill and starting watching clips from the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), his podcast.  Joe has been constantly wondering aloud why more isn’t being talked about the preventive measures you can do to help boost your immune system.

He’s right!

All the talk is mask, vaccine, distance, help, OMG, did that person sneeze?  Okay, I’m getting off topic.

Joe had a doctor on who was discussing some of the supplements he has been recommending to his patients for preventive and treatment of Covid.  One of the supplements he discussed was quercetin.

He also likes zinc, but he says zinc alone doesn’t give you the same amount of benefit as if you take it with quercetin.  The quercetin carries charged particles of zinc to the cell to turn off the virus from replicating viral stuff within good cells.  Like how I explained that?

The benefits of quercetin alone are the following:

  • It drops the inflammatory cytokines. I had to look up cytokine so here is the definition – any of a number of substances, such as interferon, interleukin, and growth factors, which are secreted by certain cells of the immune system and have an effect on other cells.

  • It increases mitochondria so you produce more cells for energy (ATP). This is what might pique a runner’s interest.

Mitochondria produces energy.  The more mitochondria we have, the more energy you can generate during exercise and the faster and longer you can perform an activity.

If you are a runner, or swimmer (or maybe any athlete), and you are wanting to improve your sprint power or aerobic capacity, having more mitochondria might be beneficial to you.

Plus, any runner can tell you that once you start your training plan, YOU CAN’T STOP!

It will set you back to square zero (not even square one) if you have to take time off for oh, I don’t know a Covid quarantine.

I have talked with two different track athletes that I worked with who are both competing at high level collegiate programs.  Both of them said that if they have to quarantine or they get Covid, their season is basically over.

This isn’t football where you can miss a game or two and come back and be fine.  If you miss a week or 10 days of training for a runner, you can’t just pick up where you left off.  You lose all of that conditioning.

So if you take some quercetin and combine it with zinc, not only will you improve your chances of fending off Covid, but you will probably increase your energy to help you run faster.

That seems like a double bonus WIN-WIN to me.

I will be trying it myself and probably have my daughter utilize it.  I am most certainly not forcing it on you.  I’m just giving you the facts that were shared with me.  You do with the information what you desire.
