It is 2016 and a brand new year.  With that comes the New Year’s resolutions. Now for my athletes and maybe for you, we don’t call them resolutions, but we call them goals. Maybe you’ve already discussed your goals and they are carrying over from 2015.

What we need to do though is action steps to make those goals a reality. That is the trick because every year people make these goals and a ton of them don’t accomplish them for a multitude of reasons.

This year, let’s try to limit the reasons why NOT to accomplish our goals.

Here is a short list of several ways you can improve your chances of accomplishing your goals for 2016:

  1. Only Have A Few Goals – It will be a lot easier to just have a few goals that you can put your focus into. If you have a bunch of goals, it may overwhelm you and if you can’t accomplish one goal you’ll say heck with the others. Or it may seem like you aren’t getting anything accomplished because you have such a long list to accomplish.
  2. Write The Goals Down – If you look at all the successful businessmen in this country, they all have goals written down. It MUST be written down, otherwise it is just a dream. Write it down and look at it every day. This will help you stay focused and “keep your eyes on the prize.”
  3. Have A Game-plan – Yes, you need to have a plan of attack. And yes, I would probably have it written out. This way you can analyze what you need to do to accomplish the goals. What are the steps you will need to take? Break down each step into manageable parts so that it doesn’t seem so daunting and then attack step by step.
  4. It Is Alright To Get Help – If you don’t know how to make that plan, then enlist help. Pay a professional to help you create it and keep you accountable to following through with the actions steps. I HATE, HATE, HATE wasting money and I’m assuming most people are like me. If you invest in a coach to help you, I’m assuming you will try and follow through with everything that coach says to do. If you have money to burn, let me know and I’ll give you my email address to send it to me via Paypal.
  5. Give It A Chance – Whether you are trying to lose weight, develop strength, quit smoking, build more income, you have to give it a puncher’s chance. People say be true for the first 21 days to create a habit and 6 months to add it to your personality. I say it takes 4-6 weeks to break a habit or create one. Either way, you have to give some time for the plan to work.

You want these goals to be met right? This won’t be easy, but if you can stick with these guidelines it will greatly increase your chances that your goals will be accomplished. Make 2016 your best year yet!!
